The City of Caledonia Diseased Tree Disposal Site will be open for anyone wishing to haul their materials to the dump at their own convenience from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily starting Monday, October 12 through the end of the season. In addition, the Diseased Tree Disposal Site will still be open regular hours during fall cleanup. Regular hours are Mondays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Tree Site will be open until Wednesday, November 4, or longer as weather permits.

Fall Cleanup is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 26 and end on Friday, October 30.  Residents shall be responsible for having their items set at the curbside by Friday, October 30. The Street Department will make one final sweep of the City on Friday, October 30, but will not return to collect any items which may have been placed at the curb after 7:00 a.m. on that day. Only acceptable materials will be collected.

City Crews will make one pass on each street Monday, November 2 to collect pumpkins placed by the curb.

Acceptable items for composting include grass, vegetables, leaves, and other kinds of vegetation in its natural state. These items should be placed by the curb in containers such as biodegradable bags or cardboard boxes, not garbage containers. In an effort to become more environmentally friendly, the City of Caledonia is requiring residents to use paper biodegradable 30 gallon leaf bags. Bags are available at the local hardware/grocery store. The weight limit for each bag or box shall be 40lbs. Leaves & grass MUST be put in the proper container or they will not be collected. Tree branches and brush will be accepted so long as they are cut into pieces not to exceed four feet in length and six inches in diameter and are tied into bundles. The City will NOT collect materials which are not cut or bundled as prescribed. Plastic bags will NOT be collected.

Examples of items which shall not be collected are dirt, rocks, concrete, furniture, dimension lumber, blacktop, and garbage.

Questions concerning the Fall Cleanup may be directed to the City Clerk’s Office at 725-3450, or the Street Department at 725-2060.

The City wishes everyone a safe and happy fall season!
